All three members of death’s dynamic shroud (James Webster, Keith Rankin & Tech Honors) reunited for the first time since 2017’s Heavy Black Heart for their recent suite of material - ‘Judgment Bolt’ (Single), 'Fall For Me' (Single), ‘Neon Memories EP’, ‘Messe de E-102 EP’, all parts leading to their most ambitious work to date – ‘Darklife’ out September 23, 2022 via howtocopewithgrief. You can pre-save and pre-order ‘Darklife’ on LTD Edition 2x 12” vinyl, CD & Cassette here.
“Since 2014 we have been releasing albums under the death’s dynamic shroud name in pairs or as individuals, but Darklife is the strongest representation of our combined sensibilities, shifting from heavy electronic dance music to bubblegum pop, from gentle ballads to harsh digital abstractions; it is an outpouring of ideas and acts as a new beginning for the group. Much of the album is about the nature of love as a metaphor for our individual philosophies sparking and melding in the music, examining love as a social construct, or as the fabric of the universe, or as not existing at all. As our debut for howtocopewithgrief, Darklife can also be seen as a bridge between the underground tape and electronic scene of the 2010s into the dance and pop world the label has been shepherding.” -death’s dynamic shroud
CRITICAL RECEPTION
“On a new double album, the experimental collective continues its journey from vaporwave toward fractured, maximalist pop music… Darklife documents DDS’s humanity emerging from their once purely digital world. While it still features the internet-damaged sample manipulation that has become their trademark, it also incorporates more original production, instrumentation, and vocals than previous releases.” -Pitchfork
"A dizzying, idea-packed journey into fractured maximalist pop from Death's Dynamic Shroud." -Bandcamp
"...Tech Honors, James Webster, and Keith Rankin of Orange Milk Records are in fine form with the new project, which demonstrates a poppier development since their niche beginnings on tracks like "Fall For Me," "Neon Memories," and "Judgement Bolt." -FADER
“Stunningly beautiful” -The Needle Drop on ‘Messe de E-102 during NMF The Needle Drop: Best Tracks of the Week in Weekly Track Roundup: 4/17/22"
“Messe de E-102” is a spooky electro-pop thriller brimming with tension and triumph." -What's Good on ‘Messe de E-102’
"It’s a bear that death’s dynamic shroud have wrestled with for years and consistently come out on top with adventurous triumphs like 'Neon Memories.'" -FADER on Neon Memories 10 songs you need in your life this week: 4/18/22
"...indie-pop track that evolves into a massive electronic behemoth... there’s never been a better time to be a fan of Death’s Dynamic Shroud." -Lyrical Lemonade on Neon Memories
“...Fucking awesome…” -The Needle Drop on ‘Judgment Bolt’ during NMF
“‘Judgment Bolt’ continues the search for untraditional dancefloor bangers, channeling Skrillex and the digital miasma of classic vaporwave.” -THE FADER on ‘Judgment Bolt’
“…a pixelated, dancefloor-shaking blur of digitized beats, trippy orchestral passages and mutated vocals that stoke excitement for the full-length to come.” -Columbus Alive on ‘Judgment Bolt’

ABOUT
Satin Sheets’ music is a gateway to worlds unexplored. Using his prized collection of vintage hardware, the New Zealand vaporwave artist is the architect to these unseen places, sculpting lush sonic landscapes with wind-swept synths, balmy electronics, and enough groove to inspire head nods amid the technicolor haze. “If someone can put on one of my albums and feel a bit outside of the world they’re in,” he says, “then it's done its purpose.” Satin Sheets discovered music’s transportive ability for himself through buying and tinkering with used synthesizers in his bedroom; meanwhile, extended YouTube sessions led him to vaporwave and producing. His self-released 2017 album St. Francis stretched new-age ambiance into sun-baked Balearic lounge sessions. He eventually reached out to fellow vaporwave experimenter George Clanton, who brought him into the fold at his label howtocopewithgrief, reissuing St. Francis in early 2018. The album, which quickly sold out, is considered one of the label’s defining releases. Four years later, Satin Sheets is finally ready to deliver its much-anticipated sequel. St. Francis II revisits the sonic universe that made him a star with a more seasoned perspective, conjuring nostalgia while also exploring wild new sounds. He’s also hinted at a later chapter featuring darker, atmospheric rave music. Where he’ll venture from there is unclear, but what’s important is that his journey won’t end anytime soon. There’s always new realms to uncover.

About
Vitesse X is an electronic music mystic. After years playing in bands and DJing around her native New York, she launched her solo career to get in touch with herself and with the euphoric spirit of the dancefloor—the limitless possibilities that present themselves when you’ve spent hours at the club, or in a sweaty basement, moving your body until the sun rises. Rightly, her songs recognize the history of rave music as a vehicle for surreal, otherworldly, and most of all, emotional pop songs. Swirling together technicolor synth programming from that tradition, with a technical approach she honed in her years as an esteemed sound engineer, her work feels nostalgic and futurist at once. It’s pop music out of time and place that celebrates the ecstatic potential of the club—a fitting soundtrack for the nights that you want to last forever.
When the pandemic struck in 2020, Vitesse X began writing songs without expectation and found the process intensely cathartic. Though she’d made music of her own before, she soon emerged with her most honest output to date—what eventually took shape into Us Ephemeral, her debut solo album for howtocopewithgrief. Inspired heavily by Kraftwerk’s Tour de France, she made electronic music that felt intensely human, using her songs as a conduit for connection. Ambient techno, ’90s rave, and coldwave beats pulsate across the record’s nine tracks as she sings about what weighs heavy on her heart. The sonic diversity and vivid emotion allowed her to reconnect to what inspired her to become an artist in the first place.
Vitesse X fell in love with the expansive possibilities of music when she was a teenager listening to acts like Radiohead, Aphex Twin, and Four Tet, who wrung powerful feelings out of intricate, genre-blurring productions. She started to take ownership of it herself when she went to college in Virginia, where she began playing guitar and bass in punk, shoegaze, and chillwave outfits. It was in that scene that she first met and played shows with howtocopewithgrief’s eventual founder George Clanton, who was then performing as Mirror Kisses. Even then, they were kindred spirits, forging the connection that ultimately led to her having a place on the label.
One of her bands gained ground in the early 2010s blog scene and began to get offers to tour around the country, inspiring Vitesse X to drop out of college and move to New York. Soon after she relocated, though, that project dissolved, and after a stint in another established group in the city, she decided it was time for a change. Burned out on road life and other people’s bands, she zeroed in on her craft and the music that meant the most to her. “I needed the confidence to approach music with a much stronger sense of myself,” she says, now a master of her craft.
Working as an engineer and producer, Vitesse X became an in-demand name in the New York scene and developed her technical abilities. At the same time, she was DJing more and more around the city, further clarifying her affection for the blissful rush of dance music. When the pandemic hit and live music stopped, it provided an opportunity to think about how to translate that love into a sound that felt honest—a true reflection of how she saw the world.
“The music that speaks to me most is always the music I was listening to during a time when I was desperately trying to escape my reality,” she says. Us Ephemeral is designed with that in mind. Whether it’s “Therma Maxima” exposing the toll greed takes on the planet over ethereal breakbeats and vaporwave synths, or the lyrically vulnerable IDM-inflected “Gated Bloom,” the record acknowledges tough times—but ultimately offers a portal to a better world.
That sentiment has powered this project since its inception. Launching Vitesse X when club nights and live gigs were on hold meant getting creative about sonically communing. She found a way through howtocopewithgrief’s weekly virtual reality streams—a thriving community where thousands gather to hang out and listen to new music. She started throwing her own digital parties and forging bonds despite the distance—fitting, since her music was made with the idea of community in mind. With Us Ephemeral’s otherworldly sounds and evocative lyrics, Vitesse X is set to help people connect, and then transcend. “Music is an escapist thing for me,” she says. “I’m always trying to evoke that in other people—to help them reach another realm.”

"deeply satisfying," George's "most accessible—and fun—music to date" - Pitchfork
"It’s got a woozy, hard-slapping beat that makes me think an aurora summer must be similar to a deadbeat summer...It’s a vibe for sure." - Stereogum on "Aurora Summer"
"..Wavy... psychedelic and immersive as f**k. Sweet To the ears...surreal..." - The Needle Drop on "Aurora Summer"
"...Fusing elements of wonky electronica, ambient, shoegaze and acid house, Clanton’s production has seen him become an underground darling on the internet, but it’s this unlikely new collaborative tape with 311 singer Nick Hexum that might just prove to be his mainstream breakout moment." - MIXDOWN
“A breezy shot of aural sunshine.” - Stereogum on "Topanga State of Mind”
"Hexum’s signature staccato and fuzzy guitar melts into Clanton’s ethereal electronic backdrop to create the ultimate musical getaway." - Billboard on “Crash Pad”
“It’s a surprising collaboration, but it also makes sense.” - The FADER on “King For A Day”
"Way more awesome than anyone could’ve predicted." - Stereogum on “Out Of The Blue”
"Beautiful vaporwave number, featuring Hexum’s reverb-soaked vocals." - Uproxx on “Crash Pad”
“Sounds like the product of a totally mutual bond, Clanton finding inspiration in his muse and Hexum sounding reinvigorated by dipping his toes into an entirely new genre.” - Flood on “Under Your Window”
"Quality songwriting" - The Needle Drop on "Crash Pad" & "King For A Day"
"This album is a collab no one asked for or predicted. There isn't a big overlap in fan bases here, but I think Nick and I share the same musical ethos. Nick has never pandered to a mainstream audience with his work in 311, they've always done their own thing and built their own culture around the music they wanted to make. I believe in that, and I've been doing my own thing for 10 years now. Nick certainly doesn't NEED to do this collab, and I've never done one of those buzzy collabs with a hot artist in my own sphere just to get more plays. I think its unique that we came together purely based on the music (after Nick heard I was a big fan) and now we have this whole record full of absolute bangers that we made while having fun. This project has been a dream come true for me. Working with Nick's vocals, guitars, and melodic ideas has forced me to evolve my production style in a way I find incredibly interesting and can't wait to share the rest of it with the world. There should be more records like this." -George Clanton
"It’s been a lot of fun to work in a new genre. George has a masterful way of twisting and bending sounds to make them sound vintage. He manages to create soundscapes that are both retro and futuristic. I added guitar and vocals to George’s lush soundscape for this stoney side project. Enjoy!” -Nick Hexum

“Illuminations is a homage to 20th century French Impressionism/surrealism as well as a homage to the way art from that era inspired some of early digital art in the 80s & 90s, and is intended to invoke a classical, theatrical atmosphere. It became a very personal and emotionally heavy album for me - besides the obvious backdrop of a world frozen in pandemic, it was written between the loss of a best friend and then later on the dissolution of a long romantic relationship. I was exploring loss through the way seemingly familiar things can feel haunted by being dislodged from their original context or being obvious facsimiles of more natural things.”

"I’m really proud of this record. 2020 was such an intense year for everyone, my entire music studio got robbed in Brooklyn, the global anxiety and uncertainty, and on top of that the extended isolation from friends and family... I think a lot of that went into some of the songwriting. I felt very free while writing this music. I am extremely excited for people to hear this new music and to be working with howtocopewithgrief for this record! They are a label run by artists like me, so it feels like we understand each other a lot." -Travis Egedy
I’ve been a big fan of Pictureplane since his album Dark Rift in 2009 and his music inspired me to start producing electronic music and create “Negative Gemini”. He’s been such a positive force in the DIY and electronic music scenes for so long, and to have the opportunity to host his new album on our label is incredible. We think we’ve got a lot in common with his DIY approach and admire his ability to create an entire universe of art, fashion, and lore to surround his music. We’re also excited to see what kind of collaborative work we can achieve together! -Negative Gemini
“From his music to the Alien Body clothing line, Travis's commitment to the DIY ethos makes him a perfect fit for the howtocopewithgrief team. I'm personally excited for us to grow together.” -George Clanton
About
Pictureplane has made his name circling the outer limits of pop culture in several mediums. The Brooklyn-based artist's gallery works, shown both in the U.S. and abroad, collide familiar with fringe and hard lines with visceral spatter. His Alien Body clothing line serves up a stylized study of symbology, the occult, and societal decay. And his music—beautiful yet heavy, swirling wild strains of industrial dance, gothic hip-hop, and emotive New Age—treats electronics not as artificial, but as extensions of our analog selves. After a decade thrashing the status quo, Egedy is not only kin to makers of lovely dark music everywhere, but a vital player in the global DIY community. He is a proud outsider, yes, but his tribe is legion and ever-growing.
In 2011, Pictureplane's Thee Physical arrived, marking a major leap forward. Egedy's voice was suddenly dripping sex at the forefront of a lush synthscape, while cuts like "Trancegender" and "Breath Work" explored the human body with gender-dissolving aplomb. He moved to Brooklyn in 2012 in order to stoke alt-rave culture from a more powerful vantage before teaming up with fabled indie-rap imprint Anticon for Technomancer (2015), an LP about the blurring line between ourselves and our machines. Along the way, Egedy's toured with everyone from Crystal Castles and Major Lazer to the Faint and Gang of Four. He has remixed Lil B; been remixed by Grimes; collaborated with bands (Prayers) and SoundCloud stars (Goth Boi Clique)
